Who has gone to see the current movie, Noah, in theaters today? Those who know the Genesis account regarding Noah come away from that movie assured it was a fantasy in the mind of someone who intended only entertainment and not adherence to God’s Word in any fashion. The more you know about the Biblical flood story the less ties there are one to the other. However, disagreement over the actual Genesis 6 account started over sixteen centuries ago, and the movie is only now bringing up a reason to re-examine it. Lets take a look at some of the issues.
First, let me say buckle your seat belts for this article because it will address an issue that has not been widely understood for those 1600 years, but is very timely now because Jesus said it would be relevant to our day. Among those recognized authorities who agree on the interpretation I will present are Flavius Josephus, Jewish historian in the first century, most of the early Church Fathers for the first two centuries including Justin Martyr, Ambrose, Lactantius, Irenaeus, Eusebius, Athenagoras and Tertullian, almost all the Jewish rabbis of that time. (Views of the early Church Fathers are recorded in The Ante-Nicene Fathers, Volume 8, pages 85 and 273.) Modern scholars who hold to this interpretation include Dr. Al Mohler, President of Southern Seminary in Louisville, M.R. DeHaan, Franz Delitzsch, Arno Gaebelein, A.W. Pink, Henry Morris, Hal Lindsey, Chuck Smith, Donald Barnhouse, Merrill Unger, and Arnold Fructenbaum.
So, why would I lay such groundwork before even quoting the scripture? You will see. I have underlined key terms that will be addressed in this article. Genesis 6 says,
“And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God (bene ha elohim) saw the daughters of men (bath adam) that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. And the Lord said, my spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. There were giants (nephilim) in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men (giborrim) which were of old, men of renown. And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually… Noah was a just man and perfect (tamiym) in his generations,…”
I believe this text is saying exactly what it sounds like it is saying, that fallen angels married human women, their offspring were hybrid giants, and were the reason for God’s drastic action of complete destruction. God was not the Creator of this new breed and so rejected it completely.
Objections
Among the objections to this interpretation probably the first is that angels do not marry. Jesus said in Matthew 22:30 “For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.” Two things should be made clear in this statement. First, the angels “in heaven” don’t marry. There is no need for beings that don’t die to reproduce. Second, Jesus did not say that fallen angels could not have sexual relations with women. Angels, both righteous and fallen, are capable of many things such as eating, taking human form and combat with men. To say they are not capable of sexual relations is not based on anything in scripture.
Another objection is the absolutely astounding ramifications of such an interpretation. I think this is the chief objection and it sends the mind reeling in search of a reason to reject it. Who has ever held to such a view? That is why I gave the list of people above who have endorsed it. Yes, it is astounding. It also gives new insight into many of the Old Testament events that are recorded in the wars Israel fought when it entered the Promised Land and afterward. More significantly it gives real substance to the origin of many ancient religions and some modern ones that sought connections with the occult spirit world. According to Flavius Josephus Greek mythology was based on the events in Genesis 6 (Antiquities of the Jews, page 28).
In the fourth century AD critics of the Church, Celsus and Julian the Apostate, among others ridiculed the Church for its view on Genesis 6. This led Julius Africanus to propose the view that the “sons of God” were the righteous line of Seth intermarrying with the unrighteous descendents of Cain. This interpretation took root when it was adopted by Augustine and became the normal interpretation for over 1600 years. It is still the interpretation found in most Bible commentaries.
The problem with the “Sethite” view is that believers and unbelievers intermarrying do not produce giants. Nor is it probable that Sethite men married Cainite women but not the reverse. If the “sons of Seth” were righteous why did they all perish in the Flood? And why would God find this intermarriage so evil that He would destroy all mankind without mercy but has not taken such action since then when believers and unbelievers intermarry?
The Angel View Corroborated
To establish anything you need two witnesses according to the Matthew 18:16, “so that every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.” I believe we have at least that in scripture. In Jude 6 we have this testimony, “And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.”
These angels are described in great detail in the Book of Enoch as Watchers, numbering 200, who descended on Mount Hermon during the days of Jared 600 years before the Flood. The Book of Enoch is not scripture but was considered to be reliable history and some early Church Fathers (Tertullian, Irenaeus, Clement of Alexandria, and Athenagoras) thought it should be part of the canon. The Book of Enoch is quoted in Jude 14 and 15 and is also referenced by Peter in 2 Peter 2:4-5, “For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell [Tartarus], and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly.” If the Holy Spirit inspired Peter and Jude to quote it we should regard it with respect even though it is not scripture.
Another corroboration of the angel view is the use of the term “sons of God” or “bene ha elohim”. This term is used only in relation to what God creates directly. So Adam would be a “son of God,” and the angels would be “sons of God.” We see this term speaking directly of angels in Job 1:6 and 2:1 when these “sons of God” presented themselves to God before His throne. We, as Christians, are not directly sons, or daughters, of God. We are sons and daughters of Adam but we can become “sons of God” by adoption. We are given the “power to become sons of God” as John said in John 1:12.
When Israel sent the 12 spies into the land they came back with the report that “We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.” Nephilim is the term used in Genesis 6 for the offspring of the fallen angels and women. The word comes from the Hebrew word “nephal” which means “to fall.” Names used to denote these nephilim include Anakim, Emim, Rephaim, Zamzummim, and the Horim
If you fast forward to the time of David you remember his battle with Goliath, a giant, who had four brothers (remember that David chose five stones from the brook?) whom David and his men later slew as recorded in 2 Samuel 21:16-22.
The failure of faith by Israel that God would give them victory led to Israel spending 38 years wandering in the wilderness. Then when they did enter God instructed them to wipe out everyone, man, woman, child, and beast among certain tribes. (Joshua 6:21; 9:24; 10:28, 39; 11:24; Deut 2:34; 7:2, 3; 20:16-17; et al. Cf. 1 Sam 15:3, 8, 18, 19; Ps 137:8, 9). Concerning these giants and hybrids Flavius Josephus said, “For which reason they removed their camp to Hebron; and when they had taken it, they slew all the inhabitants. There were till then left the race of giants, who had bodies so large and countenance so entirely different from other men, that they were surprising to the sight, and terrible to the hearing. The bones of these men are still shewn to this very day, unlike to any credible relations of other men” (Antiquities of the Jews, page 110).
Satan from the beginning has sought to derail God’s plan of salvation. Beginning with the Fall in the Garden of Eden God said the “seed of the woman” would crush the head of the serpent so Satan sought to corrupt the human genome to prevent any acceptable “seed of the woman” and this was his plan with the nephilim. Then God narrowed the focus of His plan to the descendents of Abraham so Satan focused on the destruction of the Hebrews, first in Egypt, then in the Exodus, and finally in their entrance to the Promised Land. God further narrowed His plan by designating the “son of David” Who would be Israel’s King and take away the sin of the world so Satan focused on defeating Jesus by the temptations in the wilderness and finally His death on the cross. As one person described it this conflict between God and Satan is like a “Cosmic Chess Match.”
Conclusion
We learned stories in Sunday school that tell of the heroes of the faith because they trusted God rather than their own strength. Among them are the 12 spies and their bad report leading to a failure of faith in God and the story of David and Goliath about a small boy versus a giant. These familiar stories take on a new meaning when we understand what actually happened in Genesis 6.
Understanding that chapter, the spookiest chapter in the Bible, also sheds light on the Titans of Greek mythology. Hercules would have been a nephilim, the son of Zeus, a fallen angel, and a human woman. Many other ancient cultures (Sumer, Egypt, Babylon) have legends of the “sky people” who came down and procreated with women. These events formed many of the ancient religious concepts that, I believe, today include reincarnation, ascension to divinity, and powers beyond human capacity.
Finally, we should keep in mind what Jesus said in Matthew 24:37, “But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”
This article will ask the question, IF the “days of Noah” were more than just mankind’s evil then won’t the days of Jesus’ Second Coming be more than man being evil. If the Genesis 6 sin was a case of going after “strange flesh” i.e., fallen angels procreating with women, then won’t the time of the end be of the same nature? Might it be a repeat of the hybridization of man so that he is made over into the image of Satan? Two questions present themselves; 1) are we living in the time of the end? And 2) if we are then what form or expression will this “days of Noah” take?
What I am about to present is speculation based on two things, first, the Genesis 6 interpretation given in our last issue of the News & Views, together with Jesus statement in Matthew 24, and another prophecy (Daniel 2:43) which I will explain shortly, and second, two stage-setting movements that are transpiring in the world today which I will explain shortly.
Daniel 2:43
In Nebuchadnezzar’s dream of the image made of different metals Daniel’s interpretation gives us a sweeping depiction of empires from the time of Daniel forward to the beginning of the Kingdom age when Christ returns. The head of gold represents the Babylonian empire. The silver chest and arms represents the Medo-Persian empire. The waist of brass represents the Greek empire and the fourth, the legs of iron represent the Roman empire. Then when we get down to the feet of iron and clay, which represents the time of the end when Christ returns. This stage in history is just before the Rock hewn out without hands strikes the feet and the image, or human empires, crashes and the Kingdom of Christ fills the whole earth.
Daniel tells us in this narrative at the time of the feet of iron and clay, which don’t mix, that, “they shall mix their seed with men but shall not cleave unto them” (2:43). Let’s take this statement apart and examine it. First, “they” mixing their seed with men means they are something other than men. Second, the pronouns previous to this would be “it” as metals are impersonal. However, Daniel abruptly switches from impersonal metals to “they.” Third, “they” whoever they are, will not cleave (marry) to them. The Hebrew word for cleave is the same one that is applied to men and women cleaving to one another in marriage. This stands in contrast to Genesis 6 where the fallen angels married women.
I find it compelling that what Jesus said in Matthew 24 relates to the time period of the end and Daniel’s statement in 2:43 also applies to the same time frame. Now remember what God said in Genesis 3 to the serpent, “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” This war between God and Satan has centered around this “seed.” We know what the seed of the woman means, Jesus. But how does the seed of Satan manifest itself? What we have seen of his seed to date in scripture is the Genesis 6 hybrids, the nephilim in the Promised Land, Goliath, and others like Og, king of Bashan whose bed was made of iron and was 15 feet long (Deut. 3:11). But what form will it take in our time, the time of the end? Let’s consider two developments.
Transhumanism
Transhumanism is a movement that is going on below the consciousness of the general public. We know of the controversy about GMOs, or genetically modified organisms. And we have heard of cloning of animals, but what is meant by transhumanism?
“Transhumanism is an international intellectual and cultural movement supporting the use of science and technology to improve human mental and physical characteristics and capacities. The movement regards aspects of the human condition, such as disability, suffering, disease, aging, and involuntary death as unnecessary and undesirable. Transhumanists look to biotechnologies and other emerging technologies for these purposes” (Wikipedia).
Anytime the subject comes up of modifying human genes we inevitably hear horror stories about Dr. Mengele, the Nazi doctor who experimented on people in concentration camps. Those experiments inevitably led to their deaths. Is this what we are dealing with today? Not necessarily. Gene manipulation can be beneficial as long as the limit is the correction of a genetic defect. The problem will come in when genetic tampering changes our genes away from what God created in order to become superhuman, or other than human, in some respect. For instance, could genes from an animal be spliced in to a human to make him stronger, faster, with greater endurance, etc.? When this happens it brings up the very definition of a hybrid. We see such hybridization in movie characters such as Spiderman, Catwoman, and RoboCop. The popular culture is already taking in the information about this in our movies and TV programs.
Perhaps the leading proponent of transhumanism is Ray Kurzweil, author of The Singularity Is Near: When Humans Transcend Biology, and Director of Google’s search for artificial intelligence. On the website www.singularity.com we find this statement, “The Singularity is an era in which our intelligence will become increasingly nonbiological and trillions of times more powerful than it is today—the dawning of a new civilization that will enable us to transcend our biological limitations and amplify our creativity.” Can our fallen sinful nature handle such intellectual power? I think not.
Ray Kurzweil also said in his book, “Evolution moves toward greater complexity, greater elegance, greater knowledge, greater intelligence, greater beauty, greater creativity, and greater levels of subtle attributes such as love. In every monotheistic tradition God is likewise described as all of these qualities, only without any limitation: infinite knowledge, infinite intelligence, infinite beauty, infinite creativity, infinite love, and so on. Of course, even the accelerating growth of evolution never achieves an infinite level, but as it explodes exponentially it certainly moves rapidly in that direction. So evolution moves inexorably toward this conception of God, although never quite reaching this ideal. We can regard, therefore, the freeing of our thinking from the severe limitations of its biological form to be an essentially spiritual undertaking.”
If a chip were devised that could be inserted under your skin that would enhance your immune system so that you never got sick, could live for 150 years or more, would you take it? What if taking it meant changing your DNA in some way? Could this be related to the “mark of the beast?” Revelation indicates that the mark of the beast is “the number of his name.” It does not mean it is a microchip. However, the mark may be given to those who receive the microchip as an outward badge of allegiance. We don’t know the answers to such questions. The mystery of the mark is one that will evidently be understood at the time it is put forward because Revelation says we are to calculate the number of his name. We won’t know that name until the Antichrist is revealed.
At his confirmation hearings Chief Justice nominee John Roberts was told by then Senator Biden that Roberts would rule on the question of implantable chips in people. The legal ramifications of implantable chips are great and wide ranging. We presently chip animals so some might say why not children, or others who are not able to care for themselves. And when that is approved then what next, or who next? What about the medical, commercial and political ramifications of chips? Might they be used for purposes of control, commerce, or travel? What would a totalitarian dictator do with such capability? Might he order everyone be chipped so when they turn against him he can terminate them with an electronic signal? If what the Singularity website says is true it brings up images of the Borg from Star Trek Next Generation. The Borg were cyborgs. Everything one Borg learned every Borg would know. Their ominous statement was, “Resistance is futile. You will be absorbed.”
The most frightening aspect of merging machine and flesh is that we are now at the place where we can take over our own evolution. I don’t believe in evolution at all but most of the scientific community does. It is probable that those evolutionists do not see our present stage as the final stage in our evolution. So why not evolve ourselves into something superior to our current status. If we can do it, then why not? We can ascend and be like gods. It seems I remember someone else saying, “I will ascend to the sides of the north, I will be like God.”
“A common feature of transhumanism and philosophical posthumanism is the future vision of a new intelligent species, into which humanity will evolve, which will supplement humanity or supersede it” (Wikipedia).
The five goals of transhumanism are, human immortality, the end of suffering, the end of starvation, the end of disease, and the end of disabilities. Who would not want that? On the other hand the Transhumanists do not seek the end of sin, or the correction of human greed, pride, and prejudice. Therefore, if they were to achieve their stated goals they would still have wars and the presence of all the cardinal sins. However, with the continued presence of such human sinfulness the very goals the Transhumanists seek would not only be negated, they would be magnified. The presence of such sin in humanity is the reason for sickness, disease, death, war, suffering, and starvation. That is why God made death a consequence of Adam’s sin and later barred man from the Garden of Eden lest he eat from the Tree of Life and live forever. Man in his sin wants to live without God in their lives. God will let them but He will also let them suffer the consequences of their choices. That is clear from Romans 1.
The Gospel offers all the goals the Transhumanists seek but it comes with a catch. Anyone who would receive the Gospel must acknowledge their need of salvation; their condition as sinners and under God’s judgment, their inability to save themselves, and their submission to God as Lord of their life. That is the “catch” that stops most disbelievers and that disbelief is based in pride.
God will not save what He did not create. If we change ourselves into something not of His design or outside of His purpose in creation, then there will be no hope of salvation. Why do I think that? That is exactly what happened in the Flood of Noah. The Nephilim were a hybrid race not of God’s creation. Their continued existence was a threat to the creative purpose of God.
We do not know today what the mark of the beast will be during the Tribulation. But given our technology it could be something that hybridizes humanity into something fallen man thinks is superior to our present state. If that is what the “mark” is then, like the “days of Noah” that is why anyone who takes it seals his or her doom with no hope of salvation.
I was talking to a friend about Genesis 6 and Jesus prophecy regarding the last days. This friend worked for the Federal government in a job that gave some insight into what the government might be up to. I described the concept of enhancing the genome of our soldiers so they could endure greater pain, have more stamina, etc. and my friend said, “Oh, that’s DARPA!” DARPA is a government research agency devoted to making dreamland ideas into reality. The acronym stands for Defense Authorization Research Projects Agency. If our military knows our enemies are exploring such avenues of war fighting then the US must also pursue it or be left behind on the battlefield.
I mentioned that the reappearance of the Genesis 6 events could possibly take two forms that we know of today. This form, transhumanism, is one. The other manifestation, which I will deal with next time, is the UFO phenomenon. There is much more to it than most think.
Transhumanism and UFO’s?
UFO’s and “alien abductions” are a phenomenon that has been in the modern folklore through movies and TV for many decades. Be prepared to do some of your own research on this because one brief article is insufficient.
History of UFO Reports
The earliest record of a “UFO” sighting goes back to 15th century BC Egypt. The account was found on an Egyptian papyrus dating to the time of Thutmose 3. The story was carried by the Readers Digest in 2001.
Wikipedia has a listing of reported sightings that date back to 214 BC and coming forward to this month (August, 2014) with a sighting in Houston, Texas.
Josephus reported that people saw armies marching in the sky over Jerusalem at the time of its destruction in 70 AD.
In 1952 there was a spate of sightings in Washington, DC. UFO’s were tracked by several radars at National Airport (Reagan National today) and Andrews Air Force Base. The Air Force sent up fighters to intercept but they were not able to pursue because of the UFO speeds.
In the history of sightings there are generally two categories of sightings. The first is what appears to be a nuts and bolts craft like a “flying saucer.” The other category is orbs of light. There is a YouTube video of a self-proclaimed prophet (Prophet Yahweh) in Las Vegas who summoned UFOs and the ABC news crew was astounded that orbs of light actually appeared. Probably the most well known sighting was the famous Roswell crash in 1947. I will not make a case about it here because there is still so much controversy about whether it was a real UFO or something else. However, there is one fact that we know. Nine months later Al Gore was born!! I couldn’t resist. J
In the 1890’s there were reports of sightings of what we think of as Zeppelins, or airships, a technology that came 20 years later during the early 20th Century. Wikipedia discusses the phenomenon under the title Mystery Airship.
The Telegraph (London) of August 5, 2010 carried the headline, “UFO files: Winston Churchill ‘feared panic’ over Second World War RAF incident.” Churchill feared the disclosure would spread panic and undermine religion. He shared the information with General Eisenhower who later as President, is alleged to have had his own dealings with the UFO phenomenon. It was during the Truman and Eisenhower administrations that Project Blue Book, the investigation of UFO phenomena began. The one element I want you to take out of this last paragraph is what Churchill feared, that it would undermine religion, especially Christianity. That will become apparent shortly.
Respected Leaders Comments
In recent decades many people who retired from government agencies have gone on record saying the US government knows about the “alien” and UFO phenomenon. Among them are;
John Podesta, Chief of Staff, Clinton Administration. “It’s time to open the books on questions that have remained in the dark, questions of government investigations of UFOs. We ought to do it because the American people quite frankly CAN handle the truth. And we ought to do it because it’s the law.”
Dr. Edgar Mitchell, Apollo 14 Astronaut. “It is now time to put away this embargo of truth about the alien presence.”
Dr. Eugene Cernan, Apollo 17 Astronaut. “I’ve been asked about UFOs and I’ve said publicly I thought they were somebody else, some other civilization.”
Dr. Brian O’Leary, Apollo Astronaut. “This massive cover-up has been going on for almost six decades since the UFO crash near Roswell, New Mexico in July 1947, an event which was certainly not caused by balloons, as alleged by the U.S. Air force.”
Vice Admiral Roscoe Hillenkoetter, CIA Director. “It is time for the truth to be brought out… Behind the scenes high-ranking Air Force officers are soberly concerned about the UFOs. But through official secrecy and ridicule, many citizens are led to believe the unknown flying objects are nonsense…. I urge immediate Congressional action to reduce the dangers from secrecy about unidentified flying objects.”
Paul Hellyer, former Canadian Defence Minister. “UFO’s are as real as the airplanes flying overhead.”
Lord Dowling, UK Air Chief Marshal. “Of course UFOs are real – and they are interplanetary …The cumulative evidence for the existence of UFOs is quite overwhelming and I accept the fact of their existence.”
Space Aliens?
One of the popular shows on, of all things, the History Channel is Ancient Aliens. The “experts” speaking on this show claim that extraterrestrials built many ancient megalithic monuments and were the inspiration for many ancient religions. This idea is gaining converts among viewers. It is also not lost of some atheistic evolutionists. The concept of life originating on earth from an extraterrestrial source is called “directed panspermia.” However, the Ancient Alien crowd believe we are the offspring, or design, of a race from elsewhere in the Universe.
Given the worldviews of much of the world today it might be a shock for many to have to factor in a new paradigm that has a place for extraterrestrials among us. What would happen to someone’s worldview if they were to discover a massive UFO parked in the sky over their city? Hinduism would adjust quickly because they have it as part of their ancient belief. Buddhism would not be far behind. The monotheistic religions would have the greatest adjustment. That adjustment is going on right now. The Vatican has already spoken on the subject of our “alien brothers.” Evangelicals would have a temporary problem until it became clear to them that UFOs are Satanic in character.
The fact that these UFOs are airborne raises a familiar sounding phrase from scripture, “the Prince of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2:2). That angels, righteous or fallen, can materialize and dematerialize is a given in scripture. That they have power beyond our understanding is also a given. When we hear of reports of UFO sightings our first thought should be of fallen angels, not space aliens. In 1975 Arthur C. Clarke said, “One theory which can no longer be taken very seriously is that UFOs are interstellar spaceships.” New York Times Book Review, 07/27/75.
The idea of life from somewhere in the Universe visiting Earth is fraught with fundamental problems of phyics. The time it would take to travel here is immense. It would be on the order of multiple lifetimes. If intelligent life were near enough to visit Earth then why have we not detected signals from space indicating intelligent life? SETI, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence, has been listening with radio telescopes for many years and has failed to find evidence of intelligent communication.
Another facet of the UFO sightings is the ability to violate the laws of physics with impunity. They have been tracked on radar at many times the speed of sound but there is no sonic boom. They make right angle turns at great speed which would leave the occupants as a grease spot on the inside of the craft. These and other evidences have led many UFOlogists to conclude that we are dealing with a hyper-dimensional entity. In Christian terminology that would translate as spiritual entities.
In a survey of counter-cult ministries that deal with the UFO topics every one of them defines it as being a satanic manifestation. None of them attribute the phenomenon to hoaxes, misidentification, or natural causes though there is a significant percentage of reports that come from that quarter.
The “Alien” Agenda
If UFO’s are not ETs then what are they up to? Is there a discernible agenda? To discover that we must look at the abduction claims.
Perhaps the best known investigator of abductions is Dr. John Mack, professor of psychiatry at Harvard and a Pulitzer Prize winner. Dr. Mack studied one hundred people who claimed a UFO abduction. He said that he found no indications whatever that these people were mentally disturbed. They fit the psychiatric definition of normal and sane. He also found a consistent accounting of certain factors in each story that led the Doctor to conclude that “something” real had occurred. These consistent reports included sexual probing and specimen collection, impregnation of women abductees and re-abduction to harvest the fetus. The classic “alien” is described as having black oval eyes that will mesmerize if you look at them, about 3 to 4 feet tall and spindly limbs. Two other types of aliens are the Nordics, beings who can pass as human and walk among us, and the Reptilians who can shape-shift. Regardless of how they manifest themselves it must be remembered that these are Satanic beings in character who lie, abuse and misuse people. Satan and his fallen angels can appear as “angels of light.”
Other investigators have said the abductees are told they are “special” and will be the vanguard in a new world. Interestingly there are also reports of abductees being told that these “visitors” are from space and are here to help us in our “evolution” to a higher level being.
Two other scientists with highly regarded credentials are J. Allen Hynek, an astronomer and early contributor to the government’s Project Blue Book. Dr. Hynek coined the term “close encounter” and the levels one through four of interaction. An abduction is in the Close Encounter 4 level. There are now seven levels of contact.
Another scientist, and co-founder with Dr. Hynek of the Center for UFO Studies, is Dr. Jacque Vallee. Dr. Vallee made a statement that should be alarming to anyone but escpecially Christians who understand Biblical prophecy. He said, “Increased attention given to UFO activity promotes the concept of political union of this planet. This is perhaps the most commonly recurring theme in my entire study of these groups. Through the belief in UFO’s, a tremendous yearning for global peace is expressing itself… . Contactee philosophies often include belief in higher races and in totalitarian systems that would eliminate democracy” (cited in Alien Intrusion, by Dr. Gary Bates, page 322).
I believe the evidence in abduction stories is that these “aliens” are trying to turn man away from God in order to entice man to become something God did not create or intend. Dr. Jacque Vallee said, “…human belief… is being controlled and conditioned, man’s concepts are being rearranged, and we may be headed toward a massive change of human attitudes toward paranormal abilities and extraterrestrial life.” (cited in Alien Intrusion by Gary Bates, page 158)
In their book on UFOs John Ankerberg and John Weldon said, “…how credible is it to think that literally thousands of extraterrestrials would fly millions or billions of light years simply to teach New Age philosophy, deny Christianity, and support the occult…, Why would they consistently lie about things which we know are true, and why would they purposefully deceive their contacts?” (cited in Alien Intrusion by Gary Bates, page 159)
