Watchman Fellowship is an independent Christian research and apologetics ministry focusing on new religious movements, cults, the occult and the New Age.
David Henke founded Watchman Fellowship in Columbus, Georgia in 1979. Today, Watchman Fellowship has grown to several offices in the United States.
Watchman Fellowship serves the Christian and secular community as a resource for education, counseling, and non-coercive intervention and evangelism training. We accomplish these tasks through our church presentations, personal counseling, this website, and other activities. We have served almost every denomination including Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist, Episcopal, Assemblies of God, Church of God, Lutheran, Nazarene, non-denominational, etc., as well as schools, law enforcement agencies, and civic groups.
Concerning a person’s right to choose, we believe that a real choice is one based on access to all the information, and understanding both or all sides. The counterfeit groups typically try to block their members and the public from having access to this information. We have found that most cults will use deception, control, cover up, and dishonesty with their own members and the people they are trying to convert. This deception includes some or all of the following: the group’s history, false prophesy, false scholarship, a distortion of true church history and doctrine, and destructive practices of the group.
What’s In A Name?
Our name, Watchman Fellowship, is often confused with the Watchtower Society title used by the Jehovah’s Witnesses. However, we are in no way affiliated with them. Our name is taken from the Old Testament book of the Bible, Ezekiel.
“Now as for you, son of man, I have appointed you a watchman for the house of Israel; so you will hear a message from My mouth, and give them warning from Me.” (Ezekiel 33:7)
As Christians, we do believe that “we are our brother’s keeper.” Like the watchman on the wall (Ezekiel 3:17), we have the responsibility to sound a warning against the deception and destructive spiritual abuse practiced by counterfeit groups. In sounding such warning Watchman Fellowship also has a principled commitment to accuracy.
Financial Information
The educational and evangelistic goals of Watchman Fellowship are supported in part by voluntary donations. Donations are tax-deductible in the United States. When donations are given in exchange for materials (books, tapes, etc.), only the portion of the gift above the fair market value of the product is considered deductible – these values are listed on most items. Why Samaria?
“…and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth” (Acts 1:8).
Have you ever wondered why Jesus included Samaria in this text? Probably not. It is easy to assume that Jesus is simply expanding the geography of the disciples witness of Him. And that is true.
However, there is another thought worth considering. The Samaritans were the cultists of that day to the Jews. They were Jews who had intermarried with non-Jews in the eighth century BC. They had also moved their worship of God from Jerusalem to Mt. Gerizim. They still exist today as a small sect who holds to the first five books of the Bible, the Pentateuch.
To some extent Jesus was telling his disciples to carry the gospel to those who had corrupted the faith God gave Israel. Today Christians have the same situation with those pseudo-Christian cults who have also corrupted the faith “once delivered to the saints” (Jude 3). Besides the fact that they are sinners like everyone else they are also exerting great efforts to convert people to their “other” Jesus, and “other” gospel.
They come to our doorstep with God’s Name on their lips and God’s Word in their hands. What will we do in our effort to reach the world with the gospel? Will we take the long route around this modern “Samaria” to avoid them as the Jews did in Jesus’ day? Or, will we face the cultists as Jesus would have us do?
Watchman Fellowship exists to guide Christians through this modern Samaria rather than around it. We publish our literature and present our seminars to help you through these difficult encounters. This has been possible because there are many Christians who, by their prayer and financial support, have enabled us to lead the way into our modern Samaria
